FAMILY, RELATIONSHIP, AND MARRIAGE COUNSELLING

Family Counselling

The relationship involved may be between members of a family, individuals in a relationship, employee and employer in a workplace, or between a professional and a client. Most relationships can take strain at times. If individuals involved do not have the mechanisms to effectively deal with this strain, tension can escalate and result in producing self-reinforced, mal-adapted patterns of behaviour. These patterns may become destructive to the relationship and are called negative interaction cycles. There are many possible reasons for this, including insecure attachment, distrust, poor sense of self, feelings of inadequacy, unconscious pain from early life being triggered by similar issues, a feeling that unreasonable expectations are being set or personal/emotional needs are not being met, and many more.

Relationship Counselling

Relationship Counselling is the process of counselling the parties of a relationship in an effort to recognize and to better manage or reconcile troublesome differences and repeating patterns of distress. Many factors and changes in situations like financial status, physical health, life-cycle, stress and the influence of other family members, including living and working environments can have a profound influence on the conduct, behavior, responses and actions of individuals in a relationship.

Marriage Counselling

It is important to recognize and acknowledge that each person has a unique personality, perception, set of values and history. Married couples and those in long-term relationships can learn to accept and appreciate their differences, effectively communicate their feelings and needs, and adjust their beliefs and habits. Creating happy, harmonious relationships requires commitment, the learning of new skills, and the effective application of that knowledge.
